Patty Collamer is the author of Grace on the Ledge, a memoir of her childhood growing up in the psychedelic 60s and later caring for her mother after a stroke. She is also the author of Grammy’s Eyes, a children’s picture book about adjusting to the changes in a family that stroke can bring.
Her most recent book is called One Simple Breath: A Caregiver’s Guide to Inner Peace. Based on four inner qualities of lovingkindness, compassion, unselfish joy, and even-mindedness, this guidebook introduces the practice of putting words to breath during daily challenges to invite happiness and peace into your caregiving life.
Since 2007 Patty has been a caregiver to both her mom and dad. Her mom passed away in 2015. Her father, an amazing 98-year-old, lives in his own apartment eight minutes from Patty’s house. The luckiest daughter ever, she sees him every day!
After retiring from 33 years of teaching undergraduate sociology courses, Patty became a certified yoga instructor and immersed herself in the study and practice of insight meditation. She leads vinyasa yoga practices and meditation workshops.
Besides writing, she loves to read, take long bike rides, and is insatiably curious.
She and her husband enjoy visiting their grown children on both coasts and are completely in love with their new granddaughter. They live near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with their jumbo-sized dog Riley and their mean cat Cricket.
