SAHA ( Senior Accessible Housing Act)
This bill allows a refundable income tax credit to individual taxpayers who have attained age 60 for expenditures in their residences for the installation of entrance and exit ramps, the widening of doorways, the installation of handrails, grab bars, and non-slip flooring.
Highlights include:
$30,000 tax credit over a lifetime to cover costs associated with aging-in-place upgrades and modifications.
Credit would be refundable and assignable so that even low-income seniors and those on a fixed budget can take advantage of the benefit immediately.
The Department of Health and Human Services will help designate approved designs and approve entities to certify builders in home modification solutions, building codes, construction standards, and appropriateness of modifications.
The Credit is income based and phases out, beginning with adjusted annual incomes* of $100k in single income and $150k in married or joint filing separately. (Subtract $1 of credit for every $2 income above the threshold – *adjusted income is reduced by any social security benefits)
People in mobile homes will be eligible
